Tech Tip: Loft is Your Friend

For those of you looking for a new driver, be sure to test clubs with lofts higher than you are currently playing. Most players are using drivers with too little loft. Today's balls are designed for high launch for added distance. The quicker you get the ball in the air, the longer it will go. Plus, as higher lofted drivers tend to be more forgiving (higher lofts provide forgiveness by way of spin), they may help you find the fairway more often. Don't ignore drivers with lofts as high as 13 or 14 degrees, especially if your swing speed is below 80 miles per hour or you drive the ball under 200 yards.

We see many players using lofts as low as 8 degrees and we find few using more than 10. Going to a higher loft immediately gets most of these players noticeably more distance with no accuracy loss. They are amazed at the ball flight with a 12 or 13 degree driver - often they would have never considered trying such a club, but are convinced once they hit the ball longer than they have in months.

The next time you get a chance, test hit a higher lofted driver - it just might be the salvation for your game!
